The Infant Feeding Classes at the Polk County Health Center are now underway.  I am really excited about this new adventure, but at the same time very nervous about giving the presentations.  Those of you who know me, know that I am very laid back and have no problem talking about the benefits of breastfeeding. To anyone, anytime, anyplace, ever. But for some reason, standing at the front of the class and giving a presentation, uggh....my palms are sweaty just thinking about it.  So here is my solution:

  1.   Gather my girlies (that means all of you pregnant or breastfeeding mamas out there within driving distance of the health center in Bolivar).
  2. Gather my supporters (that means all of you people sharing the baby with those breastfeeding and pregnant mamas)
  3.  We will all sit around the table together, eat some cookies and talk about how to successfully feed those babies so they can grow and develop into healthy individuals with blogs of their own someday :)
  4.  Take it in small steps.  We will discuss little bits about feeding infants at each meeting so you don't get overwhelmed, and you can pick and choose the meetings that most apply to your families questions and concerns.

So, call and register for the next class by Wednesday, June 26th.  The next class will be held at the Polk County Health Center on Thursday, June 27th at 1:30.  Come out and join me for about an hour and help me get started, meet new mommies in the area, receive encouragement and support of your breastfeeding efforts. ( I will be your cheerleader)

The next class discussion is titled "Is This Normal?"

We will be discussing :

  • Physiology of milk production
  • Anatomy of the breast
  • Engorgement
  • Hormones of milk production
  • Conditions that delay milk production
  • FAQ's for new moms
To register click on the contact us link to the left or call the Polk County Health Center at 417-326-7250.

2013 Infant Feeding Classes File:Breastfeeding01.jpg

Recently, I had a mom ask if there were breastfeeding classes available locally.  After some research, I came to realize that Bolivar has several opportunities to learn about what to expect during your pregnancy, but not a lot available for Moms who need information about feeding baby during the postpartum period.  It did not take much convincing to implement these classes in our community.

This is a place for new moms to come gain information, ask questions and also find experienced moms in the area to lean on for support.  We will meet at the Polk County Health Center for about an hour every other Thursday at 9:00 am or 1:30 pm.  These free classes will be hosted by yours truly and refreshments will be provided as well.
